Our focus areas

We provide practical programs and advocacy across five main areas:

  • Justice and crime prevention – for people involved with the criminal justice system
  • Mental health and wellbeing – for people with multiple and complex needs and those affected by trauma, suicide, and complex bereavement
  • Settlement and community building – for recently arrived immigrants, refugees, displaced people and disadvantaged communities
  • Education, training and employment – for people with barriers to sustainable employment.
  • Gender and culture – providing leadership on the reduction of violence and other harmful behaviours prevalent among boys and men, and building new approaches to improve their wellbeing and keep families and communities safe.
  • Ecological justice – recognising that the most marginalised members of the community are most affected by the climate crisis and environmental degradation, and bringing this ecological perspective to all our operations.
  • Ignatius Learning Centre – a safe, holistic and therapeutic learning environment for a small number of young people who have a positive attitude towards getting their lives back on track.
  • Centre for Just Places – enabling and supporting place-based approaches nationally through research, collaboration, engagement and knowledge exchange.

How we work

We work at the hard end of social justice with some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the community.

We partner with community to support those most in need, and go where hope is needed most.

We promote education, lifelong learning and capacity building in all our activities.

We believe this is the most effective means of helping people to:

  • Reach their potential
  • Exercise their full citizenship; and
  • Strengthen the broader community

Through our programs, people can be active, contributing and valued members of their community.

Where we work

Where We Work mapWith over 200 staff and as many volunteers, our work extends through Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

We’ve also increased our involvement in international leadership, in partnership with others in the global Jesuit community.
