Voice to Parliament – Jesuit Social Services’ position statement
At Jesuit Social Services we support a constitutionally enshrined Voice to Parliament. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and work, who have never ceded their sovereignty. We acknowledge and respect the long histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their connection to land and sea, and their stewardship of these precious gifts that we now share.

A world where prisons are a last resort
Jesuit Social Services recently released the ‘Prisons, climate and a just transition’ discussion paper, which argues that in a world of worsening climate change, Australia’s reliance on imprisonment is increasingly untenable. Major Projects employment program helps Adnan find a pathway to a brighter future
When Adnan Hussein* fled Iraq, he left behind a town in ruins. “My hometown of Baghdeda was my paradise, when ISIS invaded, it was chaos; there was no electricity, no water and sounds of explosions were everywhere”. In 2018, Adnan was granted a Refugee visa and began his new life in Australia with his wife and three young children.

JVES makes a “dream come true” for Biruk
After over 30 unsuccessful job applications and no luck with a Job Active service, Biruk* was losing hope and thought of giving up his dreams of working as an electrician. Eventually, friends recommended that he connect with Jesuit Social Services’ Jobs Victoria Employment Service program, which assisted him with his resume, job search training, and supported him to find work at an electrical company in 2022 - his “dream come true".
