Building climate resilient communities in Melbourne
In 2021, Jesuit Social Services, with funding from Gandel Foundation and the Victorian Government, launched the Centre for Just Places – an initiative supporting place-based solutions to social and ecological justice problems. Since its establishment, the Centre has been facilitating climate adaptation and resilience workshops with local governments and community service organisations across Melbourne.

More than 200 people gathered at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on March 1st for Jesuit Social Services’ Annual Dinner. The event has traditionally sought to deliver a thought-providing keynote on important social justice issues, give attendees a chance to network and mingle, while raising funds for the organisation’s work. But this year, fundraising took a back seat in favour of more time to connect and build relationships.

“I’ve been building a desk for my house, it’s really cool”.
Christian* is a student at the Ignatius Learning Centre. For the first time in his life, he now looks forward to school every day. “I didn’t like any teachers at my old school, but I don’t mind some of the teachers here, so that’s good and it’s cool. They know how to approach kids, it’s very different to the schools I’ve gone to before".
