About the role

Flemington Homework Club needs friendly tutors to assist school-aged children (Prep to Year 12) with their homework and study. The Homework Club is run at the Flemington High Rise Estate from 5-7pmon Wednesdays and Thursdays during school terms.

About the program

Homework Club is a fun and dynamic environment developed by Jesuit Social Services in September 2004. The Homework Club program is run at the Flemington High Rise Estate, where there is a high population of people from the Horn of Africa region. This community is primarily made up of Somali and Eritrean people, along with Oromo, Sudanese and Ethiopian people. The majority of these community members arrived in Australia within the past 10 years, as refugees and migrants, seeking a better future for their families.

The purpose of Homework Club is to assist the school-aged students to improve their educational opportunities. Students bring the homework tasks set by their school, and tutors assist students with questions and support the student to find answers and completing set work.
