The Jesuit Social Services Murray to Moyne Support After Suicide Team 1491 recently were fortunate to have a training session with Australian cycling legend Phil Andersen. We were very appreciative of Phil’s tips for riding into the wind.
Cycling fans out there will know that Phil was the first non-European and the first Australian to win the yellow Jersey in the Tour De France. Phil led our training ride along Beach Road and was very generous with his time, support and knowledge.
We have 24 riders and 4 support crew who will depart Melbourne on buses on Friday 6 April Swan Hill bound. On Saturday morning, we will be Port Fairy Bound on two wheels. After a few hours’ sleep in Hamilton, Team 1491 is scheduled to arrive on Sunday Morning after covering nearly 600 km.
The funds raised from this event will support the work of Jesuit Social Services Support After Suicide Program. Two of our staff, Bereavement Counsellor Colin Charles and Susan O’Brien, General Manager Human Resources are taking part in the event, as well as many of our friends and supporters. We thank them for volunteering for this event and wish them a safe and enjoyable ride on dry roads, with the winds behind them.
