The Centre for Just Places undertakes research on place-based disadvantage and innovative place-based policy and practice. 

November 2022 – Collaborative Action Plan for climate justice in Melbourne’s west

This Collaborative Action Plan is the result of the Centre’s year-long Mobilising Climate Just and Resilient Communities in Melbourne’s West project. The project brought together 44 health and community service organisations, as well as policymakers and sector networks, to articulate a shared vision for climate justice in Melbourne’s west.

April 2022 – Dropping off the Edge — VicHealth report 

VicHealth commissioned the Centre to produce this report which deep dives into locational disadvantage in Victoria, with a greater focus on health and wellbeing inequities.

December 2021 – Climate Justice in Practice: Addressing social inequity and climate resilience through place-based capacity building with community service organisations and local governments 

The Centre presented this paper at the State of Australasian Cities Conference 2021. It is also available on APO via the Australasian Cities Research Network.

November 2021 – Dropping off the Edge (2021)

Jesuit Social Services’ Dropping off the Edge research identifies areas of disadvantage in every Australian state and territory and uncovers the web of factors that must be solved for these communities, and our nation, to thrive. Dropping off the Edge 2021 measures 37 indicators across seven domains of social wellbeing, health, community safety, economic, education, environmental and intergenerational outcomes.

August 2021 – Health, housing and ecological justice: Climate change and preventing homelessness deaths (Parity)

This article explores the health risks to homeless communities posed by increasingly frequent extreme weather caused by climate change.
