Senior Practitioner – YJCSS – South East

Support the Coordinator in overseeing operations, review and evaluation of our Youth Justice and Community Services in the South East Metro region.

About the program

Our Justice programs provide holistic support service for young people involved in the justice system or who are exiting adult prisons &/or Youth Justice centres, who are assessed as high risk/need, with limited social and family networks, limited accommodation and post release support options and experiencing multiple and complex health problems.

Youth Justice Community Support Service 
Provision of pre and post release assessment and planning, intensive support and case management for young people at risk of entering custody or exiting Youth Justice Centres. Support is holistic and is provided predominately on an outreach basis. This service operates over 7 days between the hours of 7.00 am and 10.30 pm.

Community Connections Mentoring 

The Community Connections Mentoring Program connects young people who are living in or have lived in out-of-home care with a volunteer mentor from the community.
The program aim to support young people to build a lasting positive relationship with a community mentor to support their transition to independence.

Dandenong Casey Crime Prevention Project (PIVOT) 

PIVOT is part of the Victorian Government’s response to youth offending, particularly   recidivist offending, tackling the issue through the proven strategy of strengthening the ability of local communities intervening early and diverting young people from criminal behaviour.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably experienced individual to join our South East team as a Senior Practitioner. The role will support the Coordinator in overseeing our Youth Justice Community Support Service, Community Connections Mentoring and Crime Prevention programs.

Our programs provide intensive support and/or mentoring to young people and ensures young people referred to the program are; are linked to family, community and culture, have pathways to economic participation and have access to a range of supports and services in relation to health, housing and developmental needs.

This is full time role based in Dandenong, with travel required across the region.

Candidate requirements

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Significant experience working effectively with young people engaged in the justice system and complex problems that may result in offending behaviour
  • Experience and/or knowledge of, the Youth Justice and Child Protection systems, relevant Legislation, processes and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working arrangements with a range of stakeholders both Government and non Government.
  • Knowledge and understanding of appropriate interventions/skills, case management, intensive support, crisis intervention and outreach and supporting individuals with multiple and complex needs
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in providing support, mentoring and supervision to staff
  • Knowledge of South East Metropolitan Melbourne area, services and issues that may relate to local areas
