Jesuit Social Services is excited to be planning and implementing the Family Carer-led Centre in western Melbourne.
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System (2021) highlighted the important role played by families, carers and supporters in contributing to the wellbeing of people who are experiencing mental health challenges, psychological distress, mental illness, or substance use issues. In order to better recognise and support families, carers and supporters, Family Carer-led Centres are being established in each Victorian region.
Jesuit Social Services’ Family Carer-led Centre provides a warm and welcoming space for family, carers, kin and supporters of all ages and backgrounds, with no need for a referral. The Centre provides opportunities to connect with peers along with tailored information, resources, advocacy, support (individual and group work), and access to brokerage funds through Tandem’s Carer Support Fund.
In establishing this exciting initiative, Jesuit Social Services is committed to engaging with and employing people with a lived experience of caring for people who have mental health and substance-related issues.
While work is underway to find premises, employ a full-staff team and co-design the service model, an interim service will be delivered from 29 May 2023. The interim service can be contacted on 0429 564 269.
