Jesuit Social Services welcomes the opportunity to help shape the development of the Victorian government’s second Climate Change Strategy.
Climate change demands urgent, ambitious, and sustained action to protect Victorian communities and build long-term resilience. Climate risks are not borne equally, with the most severe impacts falling on those already experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation. These risks are compounded by historical and systemic inequities, which continue to create vulnerability.
While we broadly support the actions currently being undertaken by the Victorian Government as outlined in the ‘Summary paper on Victoria’s climate action,’ we believe the development of the second Strategy presents a significant opportunity to build and strengthen action over the next five years to better support people and places most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
