Jesuit Social Services welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Northern Territory’s draft Refreshed Domestic Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) Reduction Framework 2025-2028 (the Framework). Our feedback draws on history of working alongside Aboriginal communities and organisations in the NT since 2008; and our research and practice expertise in primary prevention and early intervention of DFSV, with a focus on engaging men and boys.

We make four overarching recommendations, namely, that the NT Government:

  • Invest in healing and recovery as early intervention to break the link between exposure to DFSV and involvement with the criminal justice system
  • Expand high quality, evidence-based primary prevention and early intervention initiatives with a focus on engaging men and boys
  • Adopt an explicit focus on preventing and intervening early to address sexual violence
  • Build workforce, organisational and community capability to do prevention and early intervention work with men and boys across a range of settings.
