Jesuit Social Services welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the House Standing Committee on Education’s inquiry into factors driving educational attainment.

Drawing on our work in schools and education, our submission argues that the mainstream education system often lacks the capacity, resourcing and integration with other systems to the meet the needs of individuals and cohorts facing long-term disadvantage, showing signs of school disengagement, and ultimately falling behind in educational attainment. We offer solutions, grounded in our experience, to increase school engagement and tailor educational settings and experiences (including VET) to achieve positive outcomes for cohorts experiencing complex challenges.
