Jesuit Social Services’ response to the Workforce Australia Inquiry: Rebuilding Employment Services Report focuses on seven key recommendations in the report.

Since 2016, we have supported more than 8,000 jobseekers facing complex barriers into employment services. We have developed an effective employment model that bridges the gap between employers and excluded jobseekers to create employment opportunities and increase productivity. We have also developed innovative solutions to change the recruitment practices of businesses and to address skills shortages in high-demand industries.

One of our key proposals is the development of a stewardship model, led by the Commonwealth Government in partnership with State Governments, with active participation from the not-for profit sector, employers, and communities. This model will ensure that services are tailored to the unique needs of different regions and, most importantly, the employment needs of those people who experience the most significant barriers to gaining work.

Victoria has developed a mature and effective employment services ecosystem, with a network of partners responding to local employment challenges. However, current services will end in March 2025, and there is a pressing need for an agreement between the Commonwealth and the Victorian Government to ensure that the most vulnerable jobseekers continue to receive support to secure employment.
