Do you know anyone interested in working in the popular
café scene?

Do you know anyone looking for a career change? 

Our 14 day accredited course combines practical training on a commercial espresso machine with effective customer service techniques. The course develops employability skills and improves language and literacy skills required for employment in hospitality.

Unpaid work experience can be arranged subject to availability.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

  • Location: Sangla & Co, 61/12 Crefden St, Maidstone 3012
  • Information and enrolment sessions: August 20 or 22, 11am- 2pm
  • Course days: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday
  • Course dates: August 26, 27, 29, September 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 19, 23, 24, 26, 30, October 1, 3
  • Time: 9.30am – 3.30pm

Course Content

You will learn about:

  • Operating a commercial espresso machine and coffee grinder
  • Making a range of different coffees and beverages to industry standards
  • Customer service and customer relations
  • Using hygienic and safe food practices
  • Tailoring your resume to apply for hospitality jobs
  • Workplace communication and workplace health and safety
  • Employer expectations and employee responsibilities and rights
  • Time management and personal organisation
  • Problem solving and taking instructions
  • Presentation and personal hygiene

Course outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course you gain:

  • SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • Statement of Attainment for successful completion of units of competency
  • Greater self-confidence in approaching employers and applying for jobs
  • Improved employability and job readiness for ongoing employment
  • A career pathway plan to employment or further education and training
  • Statement of Attainment for successful completion of units of competency
  • The opportunity to pathway into Jesuit Community College’s employer network programs

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for Skills First Victorian Government funded education, you must be either:

  • an Australian citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident (holder of a permanent visa)
  • a New Zealand citizen (holder of a current New Zealand passport)
  • an Asylum Seeker holder of a current VISA Class E (BVE), Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV) or Temporary Protection Visa (TPV) (as verified via the Commonwealth Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) with study rights,

and

  • not enrolled in mainstream secondary school
  • not enrolled in the Commonwealth Government’s Skills for Education and Employment program
  • not have completed an Australian qualification at Diploma level or above

Please note: If under 17 years of age and disengaged from school, participants will need to obtain an official Transition from School Form for us to sight.
