Over 200 staff and volunteers from across Victoria, News South Wales and the Northern Territory came together on Wednesday 12 June for our All Staff Day. The theme of the day was how place based approaches can be used by to inform the development and delivery of programs.
Jesuit Social Services staff reflect on the Apostolic Preferences at All Staff Day.
Our CEO Julie Edwards gave an overview of Jesuit Social Services’ history and expertise in place based research, followed by a panel discussion featuring John Adams, Dave Hammond, Kara McKay and Fiona Wright discussing how place-based approaches have been implemented in our Northern Territory, Western Sydney and Settlement programs.
Staff also reflected on the Apostolic Preferences, announced by Jesuit Superior General Arturo Sosa, and how they guide and impact our work on a daily basis.
The four Apostolic Preferences are:
- To show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and Discernment.
- To walk with the poor, outcasts and victims of violence in mission of justice and reconciliation.
- To accompany young people in creation of a hope-filled future.
- To collaborate in care for our common home.
The afternoon session was facilitated by Stand Up Collaboration, and provided an opportunity to try out a range of place-based tools and approaches.
