Jesuit Social Services’ management staff participated in an informative Aboriginal cultural awareness training program recently. The workshop, presented by Kellawan trainers Kelly, Wanda and Sean, covered topics including culture, history and contemporary challenges.

Kelly and Wanda spoke about Aboriginal history since 1788, context of cultural rules, the importance of community and identity, relationships between nations, family connections and related responsibilities. Sean gave us an insight into the Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place which is a culturally focused program for young Koori men on Community Correction Orders.

This training supports the development of the Jesuit Social Services Reconciliation Action Plan which is being led by the staff Aboriginal Advisory Group.
